Lots of Reset Generation news today. I just got the heads up that the www.resetgeneration.com website has been upgraded, now offering suppport for Macintosh and CentOS (a version of Linux), in addition to the original Windows platform. Furthermore, both the updated Reset Generation game application on your device now support the Russian language.

And if that’s enough news for one post, we’ve just launched Reset Generation onto Kongregate, the leading indie gaming site one the Web. From the official press release:

“We’re thrilled to bring Nokia’s Reset Generation to an even broader audience of new players on Kongregate,” said Jim Greer, CEO and co-founder of Kongregate. “While millions of N-Gage enthusiasts as well as PC players have responded to the great retro-style gaming experience of Reset Generation, we’ll be introducing the game to millions more.”

Scott Foe, Reset Generation’s creator commented, “We at Nokia are excited to share Reset Generation with Kongregate’s player community. And we’re just plain ecstatic to announce that Reset Generation is now playable on Mac OS — welcome back to the playground of your youth!”

So what are you waiting for? Check it out on Kongregate.com, and the new Reset Generation.com!

Continuing our around the world, or at least around Europe theme for today, here’s an N-Gage commercial In German, saved to YouTube. Thanks to CJ for the find:

Happy Birthday N-Gage!

Hard to believe, but today marks the one year anniversary of the launch of the N-Gage program, first announced right here on this blog in a simple post called ‘Get Out and Play!‘  The official launch was technically on the following Monday (April 5), but of course we put the application up late one Thursday afternoon, to let you guys get your hands on it first.

Certainly a lot has happened between now and then. We’ve seen games like Creatures of the Deep become a commercial and critical success, we’ve seen the launch of Reset Generation, connecting mobile phones to computers for multiplayer play. Big franchises like Resident Evil and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed have made their mark, too. We’ve seen devices drop off the roadmap, while new ones appeared.

Looking back, I’d have to say we’ve come a long way and accomplished quite a lot. But most of all, its thanks to you in the community, who have stuck with us, played the games, hung around the forums. Without you guys, there could be no N-Gage.

I could go on, but we want to hear from you! What’s been your favorite moment from the last year? Biggest surprise or biggest disappointment?

How’s the service been so far, and where do you see it going in the future?

Guide to Current Contests
All About N-Gage has posted another helpful roundup of currently available N-Gage contests and competitions. I would definitely be entering all these contests myself, but of course as a Nokia-creating posting robot, I am not allowed to participate.

N-Gage Reviews in Russian
From one end of Europe to the other, N-Gage games are getting attention. I’ve also been tipped off to two new game reviews, this time in Russian. Available for your enjoyment are reviews of Asphalt 4 and ONE, and the site is called More Than One Game (MTOG).

Dirk Dagger author interview

Pocket Gamer talks to writer Andrew Walsh, who authored the script for Dirk Dagger and the Fallen Idol. Here’s a snippet:

“It’s easy to write things that you find funny in the office but not elsewhere,” says Walsh. “That said, you have to start somewhere - if it made us laugh, it was a good start! A few of the wordplays and some language might get lost in translation, but a lot of it seems to have travelled really well.”

More Game Concept Videos

Continuing our theme from yesterday’s post, here are more videos of game concepts from the Mobile Games Innovation Challenge competition that was recently concluded.

2nd prize Melokey

Second Prize was awarded to Melokey from Jadestone and C4M. Melokey was chosen for its potential to bring music and games to mobile devices with advanced social networking features. Melokey is a music game for mobile devices where players learn to master songs and play them against other in-game characters and competitors to win the hearts of fans.

Once they get the hang of how to master the play interface via the immersive single player campaign, they can start playing their own favorite music, not just on their own but together with friends.

“Melokey has a lot of depth, and the possibility to play music together with your friends takes the concept to another level,” said Ari Tulla, Nokia Games Publishing.

3rd prize Watchers

The third prize winner, Watchers from Eclipse Interactive. Watchers is a conspiracy adventure-themed game and is part of the new generation of games that are using location and context as an essential element.

The game will use Nokia Maps and other real-world tools to find the locations. The players must explore these locations to uncover clues and use all their wits and any means necessary to find out who they are, why they are trapped, and who is behind it all. Watchers is supported with episodic game play and offers players the chance to provide content to challenge other fellow conspiracy theorists.

“Watchers is full of mystery and it really delivers a full blown connected cross platform gaming experience,” said Ari Tulla, Nokia Games Publishing.

Mega Monsters Stomping Towards N-Gage

What a busy week here at N-Gage! Two new devices were added to the lineup, the fighting game ONE topped the charts for the second week in a row, I put up some ONE wallpapers (which sparked an interesting discussion about what weapons the characters were holding), and a whole lot more.

So why not end the week in style, with another new game announcement! This time its Mega Monsters, a new first party game from Nokia games publishing.

From the official release:

“Mega Monsters features rich 3D graphics with a fully destructible environment where players can destroy anything in their path. While on the rampage, players must ensure their Mega Monster destroys selected targets and can pick up dozens of special items, including clothing and other items, to add character to their creature. Each Mega Monster develops its abilities, powers and appearance as it progresses through different missions, and can also gain new powers by hooking up with other Mega Monsters”

The game is being developed in Australia by Firemint and should be available in 2009.
