N-Gage Application Update

Many More Ways to Play
An update of the N-Gage application.

As part of our continuing evolution of the N-Gage service, we will periodically offer updates to the N-Gage application. We are pleased to bring you our first update.

Not only have we fixed some current issues, but have added a new device to the N-Gage compatibility list — the Nokia N85 – with more on the way!

One important fix, as spotted by our community, now enables your N-Gage Points total to exceed 10,000 points. Another important fix addresses an issue with having difficulties with the application when you approach fifty Player Names on your Friends List.

We encourage you to update your application software by following the instructions for downloading in the Get N-Gage section.

Note: The ‘Check for Updates’ function on your device may not show the update on all languages using that function until next week. Visit the Get N-Gage section of the Website or mobile site instead.

Complete release notes for this application update are available in the N-Gage Arena Support Forums.

More on Space Impact’s CLAN BATTLE

Earlier this month, we announced CLAN BATTLE, an expanded gameplay mode for Space Impact Kappa base. Recently I spoke with Gordon Thornton, producer of Space Impact Kappa Base, who filled me in more on this update.

What is CLAN BATTLE? The gist of it is that it is a free upgrade for existing owners of  Space Impact Kappa Base, adding a community ‘Clan’ mode to the game. The interview is now on N-Gage.com, check it out here.

Here is a bonus screen shot for you blog readers! :)

Reset Generation Server Update

For those of you online Reset Generation players, there was an important server update today. Here’s what’s changed, straight from the RedLynx & Arena ops team:

Some parameters of the super powers have been adjusted to encourage players to use a wide range of heroes. The following changes have been made, and they affect only the online multiplayer game mode:

* The damage caused to an enemy hero by Monster Trainer’s Evil Dark Wizard has been reduced.

* The range from which Plumber can pick up items using Ladies Man has been reduced.

* Babe Gunner’s Bullet Ballet causes more damage to an enemy hero standing underneath.

* Cyborg’s Rocket Jump causes more damage to an enemy hero standing close to the starting point of the jump.

* Lovebomber’s Love Bomb damage has been increased.

In other Reset Generation news, congratulations to GameCyte’s Jesse Henning for winning the Reset Generation Invitational Tournament for bloggers and game journalists. Click the link for a thrilling, blow by blow write-up of the Final Match as well as a link to the Tournament-winning Replay.

Medal Games Update

Community manager Redrum has updated the Medal Games leaderboard with the latest leaders and winners in this multi-week competition.

CURRENT OVERALL MEDAL POINT STANDINGS
Week 1 Results

Listed below is the current Medal Point Standing after one week of Medal Games Action:

Zergus 67 Medal Points
Shadowspawn 57 Medal Points
Deathbrin 42 Medal Points

Congratulations to the current leaders, and be sure to check the Leaderboard page for the complete standings and winners of the first round of tournaments.

What are the Medal Games?

Here’s how it works. Between Sept. 2nd and Sept. 28th, our moderators will host five tournaments a week in a special Medal Games Arena live chat room within our N-Gage community. These tournaments are broken into five separate events, so you don’t need every game to play, and if you don’t have any game at all, you can still compete in the Trivia challenge.

No tournament registration is necessary — just show up to the Medal Games Arena chat room during one or more of the event times listed below. As an added bonus, just by participating in one of these events, you’ll automatically be entered into a bonus drawing for a free Nokia N81 8GB mobile device! One device will be awarded each week for the four weeks.

During each week of the Medal Games, there will be five separate events. Each individual game event will be a separate tournament, with the winners’ Medal Points being added towards their overall medal games score to determine the eventual winners of the overall Medal games.

First Access Activation Codes

We have begun sending out the first Activation Codes for Mile High Pinball to those of you who successfully completed our N-Gage First Access survey from earlier this year. Please be aware that since this is a manual process, it may take up to a week to send out all of the codes.

Here’s the official word from Community Manager redrum:

“Before you panic and wonder why you didn’t get yours, please wait for me to post ‘Attention all, the last email has been sent out’ message. Once I post that, if you didn’t get your email you can then let us know. I’ll include in the final post how you can reach me if you think we missed you.

“Thanks again to everyone for their patience on this one, for all your great feedback, and we hope you enjoy some great Mile High Pinball duels via the N-Gage Arena.”

Watch this thread on the N-Gage Arena forums for more information.

N-Gage Today

Fast and furious, here we go…

• Tzer2 over at All About N-Gage has put up a new editorial about the full potential of N-Gage. I thought that this was a good article because it serves as a reminder that we are still in the early stages of N-Gage, with only a handful of games as of yet, and no devices with the application pre-installed. Read the rest here.

• Andrew Podolsky over at 1up.com has posted his first impressions of the new N-Gage platform. He notes: “However, the N-Gage is clearly attempting to become the new standard-bearer for mobile gaming, and from what we’ve seen and played, we’re hopeful that it will find an audience this time around.” Have a read.

• And finally, I’ve been tipped off about a new blog (new to me, at least) covering the N-Gage scence. Called N-Gation, it’s put together by hOAx, whos is tossing up videos, reviews, and previews of N-Gage games as fast as he can get his hands on ‘em. Looks like good stuff so far, go ahead and give it a click.

Here are his reviews so far:

Asphalt 3
Hooked On: Creatures of the Deep
System Rush: Evolution
Brain Challenge
FIFA 2008
Space Impact Kappa Base

Have a great weekend everybody!
