‘We do try new things’
If you haven’t already done so, be sure to check out the June issue of Mobile Entertainment, which sports an interview with Simon Etchells and Martin O’Driscoll, two members of the N-Gage launch team.
In this interview, our guys answer questions about handsets, operators, and first-party publishing. A snippet:
Mobile Entertainment: What’s the thinking behind the relaunch of the N-Gage concept?
Etchells: The original idea was lauded, but the uptake wasn’t what we wanted because it was tethered to one device. Nokia doesn’t get everything right, but we do try new things — and learn when things don’t go to plan.
The same article also has a sidebar interview with Indiagames CEO Vishal Gondal. Indiagames, you may recall, was revealed as a partner for the next generation of N-Gage back at the Game Developer’s Conference.
Mobile Entertainment is a print publication, but you can also download the digital edition directly from their website (registration required).

I didn’t get what do they mean by saying “Between five and eight handsets will ship with N-gage embedded, but the app will be downloadable to many more where local conditions allow.”

Hi SciHunter,
What that means is for example, say Device X is N-Gage compatible, but it has already been shipping before the N-Gage application itself is ready. So the application would not be embedded on that device.
However those people can go to N-Gage.com and simply download the application and install it to their handset after it launches.

Hi ikona,
What I don’t understand is, are you going to lunch between five and eight new devices on the N-gage lunch date? I don’t think you are, it’s impossible
that’s why I’am curious.
yeah I do understand what means “embedded”

Hi SciHunter.
We plan to support about five to eight N-Gage compatible devices on our launch date. Some of these may already be in the market, some may be future products. But all would be compatible with the new N-Gage software application.
Sunnycricket, an Arena chat and update? That’s a good idea, I will see about setting one up. It may be a few weeks, lots of people on vacation this time of year
