New Discussion Thread
Good day, N-Gage fans. It’s another fun-filled day at the office as we get ready for N-Gage Go Live.
Redrum is sitting in a corner, pulling out what’s left of his hair. Congested is now hiding under his desk, making strange noises. And here I am, answering your questions, deleting spam, and approving comments with good humor and abundant cheer, but before you ask: No, I can’t give you a go date. So without further fussing, let’s get to the discussing! Here are a few questions for you this time around:
What other mobile gaming websites do you visit besides the N-Gage Arena forums and blog?
What did you think of our old ‘Player of the Month’ feature? Would you like to see it return, and in what form?
Did you show your First Access application to anyone who does not own an N-Gage compatible device? What was their reaction?

well, i only visit ngage.com would like the earlier ‘player of the month feature’. All my frnds liked the ngage first and have made a point to get ngage at any cost
March 31st, 2008 at 1:38 pm
Hi Ikona - you & team arena can always come lurk on my forums and still get the kick out of editing messages (~cough~jojo hasn’t sign up yet~cough~)
(email me if you, Red or Cong want the URL)
But as for Player Of The Month, i think it should definately return after it’s hiatus from the previous gen, as we’ll have new talent to pick up on, and skills from the new gamers we’ll recruit from the Deck Software being on more handsets now.
I don’t visit other mobile gaming sites to be honest.. I’m not a PSP owner, I have a DS but don’t like the Big Ninty’s website for the community there. Plus it’s a great community here who have a lot of respect for each other!
Oh btw, Ikona, do we need to start the “Redrum Wig Fund” & “Congested Sanity Fund” at all? I’ll rally the N-Gage Elite if that’s the case
March 31st, 2008 at 1:41 pm
I visit www.pocketgamer.co.uk. Great site with lots of news. There’s a swedish site I read now and then too, www.spelofon.se, but not much happens there.
‘Player of the Month’, eh, don’t really care about that one. I won’t participate in anything like that, and if it goes by gamer points or something, it’s something I won’t get much of compared to others. In any case, I don’t think it will affect me in any way.
I never tried the First Access application so I can’t comment on that one.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:53 pm
I showed the application to around 30-40 people. Co-workers, friends, and family. Most of them thought it looked pretty slick and were impressed that it was running on a cell phone.
However once I told them that you had to purchase the games, all of them said they wouldn’t be interested. None of them found the phone’s controls suited for gaming and said if they’re going to play portable games, they’d rather use their DS. And those that didn’t have a DS said they don’t play games enough to warrant spending any money on them.
March 31st, 2008 at 2:33 pm
@jaydrive, I don’t know if that’s a good idea to let you turn the tables like that… the temptation to put in “EDITED BY CONGESTED, I MEAN JAYDRIVE” might be too strong! But go ahead and start up those funds
@Carl, that’s an impressive number to show it too, good stuff.
March 31st, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Player of the month return please! =) i’ve been searching anothers websites about n-gage in spanish but im not founding something, why dont u soupporting in others languages? may be more people will know the new n-gage.
March 31st, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Yes, that was a very good comment by Carl there, showing it off to as many people as he did and getting the feedback he got.
I regularly check N-Gage.com waiting for that magical day when Next-gen finally arrives in full force, with all hope that N-Gage will revolutionize not only mobile gaming, but gaming in general. I heard talk Consoles could become obsolete in the next 5-10 years, and N-gage could be the model that how the masses get and play their games in the future.
But I also check Pocketgamer for info as well as the mobile sections on Gamespot and IGN.
Player of the month should def. return as well as the as the Annual Awards( Player of the year, Mod of the year, most improved ect… too. Lol I loved how those live chats turned out.
March 31st, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Wooh something to do while waiting! ^^
- I visit PocketGamer.co.uk daily, Midlet-Review.com and IGN Wireless occasionally.
- Player of the Month? Huh, never heard of that feature :S Possibly because I’m too new here.
- No I didn’t. I wanted too though but I thought I’d save it ’til the service goes live since I wasn’t even supposed to have the client installed on my N73. So all I did was talk about the application and the response I got was generally something like “huh, Nokia is doing that? Cool”.
March 31st, 2008 at 9:05 pm
The new thread: “Unveiling the 2008 Nokia N-Gage”.
Come on, ikona, you now how long we’ve been waiting for the full N-gage application. I really had no need for an April fools joke about N-gage.
At least, it’s good the thread isn’t titled “N-gage is live” with no real link to it.

Well, I dont visit other mobile gaming sites except the links in the blog. But I do visit other gaming sites!

Yeah, the POTM should be back, but seeing how many newbs we are getting the voting booths are going to be spammed. But despite that we still should be able to vote. About showing First Access around, a few friends from school took a glance at it and thought its pretty cool. My little brother on the other hand wishes he had an N81! (he has a low end Nokia phone) Now that the Arenas age restriction is 13 and the devices can use WLAN he could even play online!
March 31st, 2008 at 10:07 pm

March 31st, 2008 at 11:54 pm
Hey ikona I have a question for you. I just upgraded from an n81 to a n95 8gb do i have to pay again for all the games i’ve brought or can I transfer them to my new phone?
April 1st, 2008 at 12:09 am
@Radu, cut me some slack. I am not in that video. Come on bro.
@tschakram, nice picks, two of those are new to me will have to keep an eye out.
@hogan, Provided you kept your activation codes you should be all right. You may need to contact Nokia Customer Care.
April 1st, 2008 at 12:36 am
I showed the games on the n-gage first access, they were extremely shocked with the good graphics. They liked Space Impact-Kappa Base the best. When they heard the price to get that game, they said it was very expensive, especially for a handphone game. Will the prices of the games be cheaper in a few months to come??
April 1st, 2008 at 1:15 am
@Radu, cut me some slack. I am not in that video. Come on bro.
No need to get upset. I was just mentioning that probably most of us weren’t amused by that joke. Well… Still waiting for the release.

my answer to question no.3 is same is BlueSwift’s. My friends went WWWOOOOWWWW IS THIS FU*KING FOR REAL when they saw the ngage application and the graphics it delivers. However 1 thing i disagree is that i do find the games very affordable, especially if you wanna compare it with ngage 1st gen games, psp games, nitendo DS games or even gameboy advance games, but i wouldn’t complain if the prices become cheaper(: I will really not think even once in buying games if i see any ngage games that can cost as low as 5 dollars, but in my dreams of course
April 1st, 2008 at 2:57 am
I only visit n-gage.com .Same as blueswift they said the games are expensive but i know how difficult to make the games ,and i can’t buy the games because i don’t have a credit card , i’m scared if my father angry after i ask him to make a credit card . I hope the other way is “phone bill” in all country , gameloft have the service . I hope nokia give the best way to be easier to buy n-gage games for everyone who don’t have a credit card

I am from Germany, i often visit n-page.de but the website is in information really low (at time! In N-gage Classic she was great! Wait for N-gage 2.0 launch). And i visit n-gage-center.de this website is more informated but n-page looks better.^^ My Favourit English websites are projectnext.eu and i must say she haves more infos than the nokia n-gage.com site and his blog/ forum. I dont understand why is givent any infos from her, only in many days its geive some infos. That isnt funny. : ( I want to say, Nokia must be do more poblisity for N-gage 2, not when its lunch. BEFORE its out you must make n-gage famous, people see and want to buy by release! And i want to say, NOKIA must show the website BYSAMIR.FR PLZZZZ! You can play Games, like a wiimote!!! And Nokia must use the Headsets for Onlinegaming!!! And the Kamera for Chat in N-gage Arena!!! That must be possible. Think about your steps and bring out some perfekt games for kill the other mobil gaming konsols. ; )

April 1st, 2008 at 3:54 am
Surf a few game website and install. First Access still the best. now my N81 8GB only have First Access game including trial.
Just remain the ‘Player of the month’ like before. It is good if the player of the month still there. Sure really challanging!
Most of my friends using S60 ver 1 & 2 really jealous with my First Access software that i have in my N81 8GB. they always keep asking me and check weither there are compatible First Access for their mobile. They don’t care to buy the game i.e COTD as long they can install the First Access.
April 1st, 2008 at 8:43 am
in germany are not many newspages for n-gage but i think that everyone who is interested in n-gage will come to this blog. I don’t know why nokia don’t give us a date of releas. What kind of marketing is this? I hope that the full version will be released this week because it dosen’t make sense. If they don’t release it this week they could support first access longer. But i think n-gage will be best! My used device is n81.
April 1st, 2008 at 8:52 am
shadowspawn, do you have to use the word “newbs”, “noobs” or “nubcakes” in every post you make?
Wait, that’s a stupid question. If anyone were to read over your previous posts, they’d see the answer is clearly Yes.
April 1st, 2008 at 9:31 am

i have read this and.. looks more like supposition. I don’t think that this man knows more than we do
Im sure that Icona will give us some hints sooner or later.. Players first! Hyenas later!
April 1st, 2008 at 12:04 pm
@yoshi007, it’s hard to give a release date when there is none, don’t you think so too? Or would you much rather have that they GUESSED what date it’ll be ready for launch? What kind of marketing would THAT be, hm?
Give it a rest already, they’ll launch the service when it’s ready. Stop being so impatient - I can’t help but get irritated by how so many people are acting like a bunch of whining kids, going “I want it, give it to me now *waaah waaah*…
April 1st, 2008 at 12:29 pm
ConraDargo - Welcome to the world of the forum regulars. Many of us have that same feeling.
Sometimes i can’t help but feel that we (the human race) have created our own anger from the impatience we have, and the on-demand world we have started creating, were software is no longer subject to “being out of stock” and instant activation from the moment payment is handed over.
Have you noticed how people seem to have a better patience when they actually understand something? I worked at a mobile phone network call center, and someone called through, complaining about how a friend had not received an SMS from them. I likened it to pieces of toilet paper being flushed through the plumbing network, and sometimes you would get a bit of congestion somewhere, and it would take some time. An agry caller was suddenly very calm, and gave it 24hrs. I called back the following day and she told me just 15 minutes after the call, her friend had the sms.
This is why I get upset with companies who, like my ISP, just mask up their problems under “a technical problem has occured in this area.” and don’t give any other details. Just be honest, and say wether a lorry has smashed into a local exchange, and then customers realise it was completely beyond the ISPs control.
anyone remember the phrase
“Honesty is the best policy.”?
April 1st, 2008 at 1:14 pm
@conradargo : for me nokia is one of the biggest company in mobile phones and i dont understand why they won’t say to us when they want to release it. Its the same if the next nintendo console gets no release and they say: “hey you can buy it when its done but we won’t say to you when its done.” thats not really good for them and the fans are angry.
April 1st, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Well yoshi, companies usually come up with an _estimated_ date such as “during summer” or “3rd quarter” or in this case - in the next few weeks. So there you have your release date, it’ll launch in the next few weeks. If they could’ve pinpointed it then I’m sure they would’ve, but for now all we know is that it’ll be released in the next few weeks so that’ll just have to do.
@Jaydrive, agreed. We’re living in a society where everyone expects everything to happen in an instant. These are stressful times where most of the earth’s inhabitants seems to have lost their patience waiting for stuff, because they’re getting more and more used to NOT having to wait for something.
Just look at cooking. Not too long ago, I read that the average cooking time for someone who’s making dinner was only 10 minutes, yet it usually takes about 20 minutes to boil potatoes until they’re edible… People aren’t even taking enough time to cook some proper food - most of it are probably just fast food that has already been cooked or somehow prepared. Choosing the microwave over the oven is so convenient, and why “waste” 20 minutes on boiling pasta or rice when it’s doable in 3-7?
Remember to stop for a breather every now and then people, or you just might hit the wall some day.
April 1st, 2008 at 11:39 pm
I hope this isn’t out of point, will n-gage be able to set up forums for people of the same country to gather and discuss? I am a Singaporean and I’m not sure how many Singaporeans who are n-gage first access users. I know quite a number of them showing off their N81s. But when i asked them whether they have the n-gage First access, they went blur and did not know what was that. They do not even know that the Navi Button on the N81 is scrollable, just like the iPod Click Wheel.

Yoshi007 -
Dunno if you noticed man, but everytime Nokia has so far announced a date, there has been a severe problem in meeting that date.
Remember prior to the new year? We were supposedly meant to have had an app released back then but they had a problem and had to can the date.
Right now, Nokia have taken the correct steps in my opinion, and i think you can tell it’s not far from us now, because we don’t have the forums right now, and our account data is being transferred into the new database.
Nokia will say to us “It’s finished, come and get it!” if you sign up to the link on the front page with the icon and caption of “Tell me when it’s ready!”
Let’s take the Nintendo Wii, Yoshi - It got a release on time alright, but the consoles design and physical manufacture were confirmed and finished long before they announced dates - but even a year AFTER it’s launch, supply’s of the console were short and not many people could get one! So would you rather have an instance of having a date, but you couldn’t get it anyway, or leave your email and be contacted once it’s ready?
Nokia are just as human as us, and are learning from their mistakes as we do to. Nokia are now acknowledging the upset that’s been caused by announcing dates, and failing to meet them. Now they’re keeping quiet for their own good.
Now, give Team Arena a break, let them work to get the data across, because the sooner they can do that, the sooner we can all be back in the forums and ready with memory cards & Datacables to download the app & game files.
At the end of the day, the app will be released when it’s ready.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:31 am
I showed the N-Gage First access to someone who don’t play with games with mobile and he loves it !!!! I think that with good marketing (here in France, there is a lot of advertisement on the N95 8GB), N-Gage will be a smash hit !
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:33 am
To the people defending Nokia: Yes some people are impatient, but show me one other gaming platform that doesn’t give a solid release date months in advance. Wii, DS, PS3, PSP, PS2, X-Box, X-Box360…. ALL HAD RELEASE DATES! People were preordering all these products months ahead of time and gues what??? They all met their dates. Surely you must realize that it’s pretty pathetic for Nokia not to be able to give us a solid release date at this point.
If you can’t see the truth, I will tell you. Nokia has no idea what they’re doing. This is a fact, not an opinion. The fact that they came out a few months ago and said they were launching “next week”, only to reneg on that statement, confirms this.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:40 am
Oh and Jaydrive, your comments regarding the Wii make absolutely no sense.
First of all, hundreds of thousands of people were able to pick up a Wii on launch date.
Second, this isn’t an either/or situation. These delays have NOTHING to do with supply. It’s not a matter of it being released now but without enough hardware. There is no manufacturing involved. Surely you must know this. So what relevance does it have to the conversation?
April 2nd, 2008 at 12:09 pm
@Carl, from what I can remember - it took quite some time for Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo to actually pinpoint an _exact_ release date. Before that they were just estimates. And wasn’t the release date for the PS3 pushed back? At least here in Europe.
And again, while Nintendo _did_ meet their Wii release date - I myself didn’t get one until two months _afterwards_ despite pre-ordering…
Anyhow, please stop bashing the N-Gage team for needing more time to finish their product, mkay? :/ I _really_ don’t see the point of it.
Gosh I’d hate to be one of the developers with so many ungrateful people out there…
Current release date is still “in the next few weeks” and until they’re ready to either give us a more exact date or even launch the service, then that’s enough for me. At least I know for sure that it’s real close now
