Statement About Game Transfers
Recently All About N-Gage posted a story regarding the ability to transfer games from one N-Gage compatible device to the next. We have since issued the following official statement regarding this issue.
We have noticed a number of media stories about N-Gage game transfers and wanted to clarify the issue. Due to copy protection, N-Gage games, like most mobile games, are linked to one device. As the value of content increases, a robust copy protection mechanism is essential as it makes it possible for the games industry to invest in N-Gage content.
We acknowledge our customers’ concerns and have been working on a solution that would allow people to transfer purchased N-Gage games to a new Nokia device. We are working with our Nokia Care Centers with an intermediate solution to enable the licensed transfers of games until a final solution is ready to be deployed.
We apologize for the confusion around this issue and look forward to delivering an appropriate solution to transfer purchased N-Gage games to new Nokia devices.

Thanks for the official statement, and as I’ve posted in a few places, I’m very pleased and impressed with the relative speed at which Nokia and the N-Gage team responded.
I’ve actually just purchased Snakes Subsonic (and subsequently became heavily addicted) to celebrate.

Can I just make clear that All About N-Gage communicated with Nokia about our story BEFORE publication, so they could verify the facts.
We asked Nokia to tell us their point of view on this issue before the article was published. We then printed what Nokia told us in the article, i.e. games would only be transferred in the case of broken phones replaced under guarantee.
Thankfully it seems Nokia has now altered their position somewhat since the article was published, so that games will be transferrable to new phones too. This is great news, and we are now very hopeful that N-Gage could go on to become a major gaming platform, perhaps even the world’s biggest when you consider the number of phones it may be embedded on.
We’ve publicised Nokia’s new statement on this issue as much as we can. We’ve also added an update to the article itself so anyone reading it knows that Nokia is now definitely working on a transfer system, along with a link to Nokia’s new statement.

What about Voice Navigation (and other services) on Nokia Maps? Will that policy apply in other services in the near future?

Xwandroid, Nokia Maps subscriptions can already be moved from phone to phone as often as you like because they’re linked to the SIM card. You just put the SIM card in whatever phone you want to use, choose the Update Licence option (which is somewhere in one of the Nokia Maps menus, can’t remember where) and it works on that phone.
eckhart_imf, you don’t have to sell anything, all that Nokia means is you will be able to move your games from one phone to another for any reason. They haven’t explained exactly how it works yet, but at first you will do this by contacting Nokia customer care.

you can already transfer other services to your new phone
IE a 3 year nokia maps licencse can be transfered to your new device if u upgrade, same with other nokia services
It’s only right it should include N-gage games so all their services are now in line with same transfer policies although i do understand why it was’nt
hopefully now all this mass panic will calm down and nokia can carry on giving us a great all round service

I don’t understand why this is an issue. Hello, Nokia? Did you honestly not foresee this problem? I can’t see how you don’t already have a solution planned for this. Of all electronic devices that people upgrade and replace, cell phone has to be #1 on that list. What did you expect people to do?
Tsk, tsk.

Good on Nokia for listening to customers! I love N-Gage, and I blogged a few suggestions to make a great service even greater.
